Proximity cards, also known as prox cards, are advanced contactless smart cards that eliminate the need for inserting them into a reader device. Unlike traditional credit cards and contact-type smart cards, proximity cards employ cutting-edge contactless card technologies.

Using a low 125 kHz radio frequency, prox cards seamlessly transmit data to a door access reader. Upon placing the card on the reader, the unique sequence of numbers on the card is sent to the access control panel. The panel then cross-references this number with the internal database to validate its approval status.
